Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Holdings Inc.

Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Holdings Inc. has achieved the highest A List rating in both the Climate Change and Water Security categories in the 2023 sustainability survey conducted by international non-profit organization CDP. This marks the second consecutive year CCBJH made the A List for Climate Change and the first time for Water Security.

CDP's annual corporate sustainability survey on serves as the global standard for corporate environmental disclosure. CDP reviews companies’ initiatives in environmental areas and evaluates their environmental activities on a scale from D- to A. The CCBJH Group believes that the results of its initiatives in the following areas were comprehensively evaluated this year. In 2023, CDP surveyed over 21,000 companies worldwide, selecting 346 companies for the Climate Change A List (including 109 Japanese companies) and 101 companies for the Water Security A List (including 36 Japanese).

■ Initiatives toward climate change
CCBJH is aligned with the Paris Agreement and science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, actively working to reduce GHG emissions throughout its supply chain with the aim of achieving virtually zero emissions by 2050. Under its mid-term non-financial goals, the CSV Goals, CCBJH has set a series of targets to reduce GHG emissions in the entire value chain in Japan by 50% in Scope 1 and 2 and by 30% in Scope 3 by 2030, compared to 2015 levels. To meet these targets, the company is implementing a range of initiatives.

CCBJH’s bottling plants are promoting the use of renewable energy sources, including the use of electricity generated by hydroelectric power and the purchase of "Green Power Certificates," a system which verifies electricity is sourced from natural energy sources through third-party certification.

■ Initiatives toward water security
Based on the "Global Framework for Responsible Use of Water and Conservation of Water Resources" established by The Coca-Cola Company in 2021, CCBJH is working to conserve water resources at source areas around its plants, as well as improve the health and conserve biodiversity of these surrounding watersheds. As part of its CSV Goals, CCBJH has also laid out targets “30% reduced water usage by 2030 (compared to 2015)” and “sustain 200% water source replenishment until 2025” in an effort to promote the conservation of its water resources. CCBJH has concluded water resource conservation agreements at all of its 17 plants and achieved a 420% water source replenishment rate in 2022.
The plants operated by CCBJH are implementing activities to reduce water consumption in the manufacturing process (Reduce), to recycle water used in the manufacturing process (Recycle), and to return the same amount of water to nature as used in the manufacturing process (Replenish).

CCBJH will remain committed to working toward solving social issues through its business activities, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the CCBJH Group’s business areas, and aiming to realize a sustainable society.
